The River Court Hotel, Kilkenny
Patrick and I had stayed at The River Court Hotel a number of years ago, before my blogging days, and had enjoyed our visit to Kilkenny and our stay at the hotel but it was lovely to return again with fresh eyes to a very fresh looking hotel. You see The River Court Hotel had a bit of a facelift since I last saw her and it has worked wonders.
From the car park The River Court Hotel could be any hotel anywhere but as soon as you enter the lobby and get a glimpse of the castle be it from the Riverview bar, the Riverside Restaurant or your room, there is no doubt that that beautiful structure directly across from the hotel across the River Nore is Kilkenny Castle and that you are most certainly in Kilkenny City.
Although both stays are very memorable the reason for our stay this time round was quite different from the last time we stayed. The last time was on a whim, a spur of the moment night away, this time it was a very planned Kilkenny Experience to Remember. The last time it was just us two ‘crazy kids’ this time it was us three and one literally is a kid! … well at nearly four months old he was an infant really.
Check in at the hotel is quite late in my books at 4pm but when I advised that we had hoped for an earlier check in of 1pm and had our baby with us, they were kind enough to have our room priority cleaned and ready when we arrived.
The Lobby, Riverview Bar and Riverside Restaurant are all tastefully decorated. I loved the colour theme and the stylish and comfortable looking couches that you just want to curl up on with an Irish Coffee. Outside on the Riverside Terrace you can take in the fresh air, the wide open sky, the River Nore and of course the piece de resistance, Kilkenny Castle.
Our room, like the updated and upgraded lobby and lounge area looked so much better than the decor that owned it when we previously stayed. It was fresh, inviting and gave a feeling of luxury. The view from our window was fantastic and we could see the castle in all its glory. The bathroom was a comfortable size. The bed was large with crisp clean sheets and bedding. As Smith was also staying the night, his first in a hotel, we were nervous about how he’d find sleeping in a travel cot but he slept like a baby!
Patrick and I slept well too. The room did get quite warm the night we stayed and although there was a fan available to us, we decided against it and slept with the window open a little wider than we would usually have it. The only issue I had with that was being able to hear the merriment from the local pubs until they closed. However if you’re not a light sleeper with good hearing then don’t worry about it. Patrick slept like a log.
The next morning it was rise and shine and down to breakfast which consisted of everything you could want be it a continental breakfast of cold meats and cheese or a full Irish. I went with a full Irish fry and it did not disappoint.
We enjoyed our stay at The River Court Hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Omar the Assistant Manager was so helpful and quick to get us the travel cot that had been booked along with the room. He also offered his services with any help we might need to make our stay and Smith’s stay more comfortable, which was very much appreciated. Our room was stylish and comfortable. It’s in a great location for tours, shopping and socialising. The view of the River Nore and Kilkenny Castle are stunning and make the perfect backdrop for parties or weddings. I was a little sad to hear that the pool was no more due to the lack of guest use but I’m sure it made sense to utilise the hotel to what guests requested and that most likely was for more rooms.
Although neither Patrick nor I dined here for dinner, breakfast was tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed and delighted in the Po’Boy Sandwich I had for lunch there. It was delicious and makes me excited to return to try out more from their menu … I also have my eye on their Afternoon Tea … Perhaps we’ll make an evening of it and stay again!
