The Liberator Storehouse Special – Port ‘N’ Peat
This week’s Bevvy of the Week is a limited edition, Storehouse Special Whiskey from Wayward Irish Spirits in Killarney Co. Kerry, called The Liberator, Port ‘n’ Peat.
The name, The Liberator, is a nod to the great Irishman Daniel O’Connell who fought peacefully to liberate the Irish people, and has special meaning to Wayward Irish Spirits, as the company has been set up by relatives of Daniel O’Connell.
Maurice O’Connell, Co-founder of Wayward Irish Spirit describes Wayward Irish Spirits as a family business with rich history. And if you’d like to know more, as I did, then a visit to the ‘Our Story’ on the Wayward Irish Spirits website is recommended.
At the moment, Wayward Irish Spirits source young spirits from distilleries around the country and mature it on their own estate in converted farm buildings. Maurice O’Connell highlights these buildings as perfect for the maturation process.
In 2024, they hope to have a fully functioning distillery on their estate, and as they grow their own barley, they will be the first grain to glass single estate distillery in Ireland.
ABOUT The Liberator Irish Whiskey, Port ‘N’ Peat
The Liberator, Storehouse Special, Port ‘n’ Peat have just released their third small batch of 400 bottles. The one I’m lucky to have in front of me is from the second batch. It comes in a super-cool 350ml bottle, with hand written batch and bottling numbers on the label.
Port ‘n’ Peat is their latest release, which is a limited edition. However, after the very positive response this whiskey has received, they might make it part of their core range.
This Irish whiskey expresses aromas of figs and biscuits, with mouth-filling flavours of fruits, and a touch of caramel. A hint of sweetness is delivered from the port casks and the complimentary presents of the peated malts to finish is just perfect.
The Liberator, Storehouse Special, Port ‘n’ Peat is a great whiskey and I’m really looking forward to trying the other offerings The Liberator have in their range.
The Liberator, Storehouse Special, Port ‘n’ Peat comes in a 350ml bottle (Super-Cool), with a 46% abv content. A bottle of this good stuff will cost you around €35, and worth it.
Sláinte,
Patrick
