Mother’s Day Gifts – 7 Ideas
I’m sure I bought, or made my mum some ridiculously bad Mother’s Day gifts when I was a child. And I’m sure she held them dear, and cherished them – well at least until I wasn’t looking. As a mother myself now, to two little wildlings, my boys have yet to have free rein on what Mother’s Day Gifts they come up with!
And so for now Daddy is the boss when it comes to Mother’s Day gift ideas. Basically because he’s the one with the scissors when it comes to making homemade cards. And the one with the moolah when it comes to choosing a gift.
And so with him and do mháthair / mhamaí, and all the other adults buying Mother’s Day gifts in mind, I curated this article: Mother’s Day Gifts – gifts your Mum might actually want! (Plus it’s just another way of showing support for some great Irish businesses).

Beautiful Fresh Flowers or Plants
A gift of beautiful fresh flowers or indeed a oversized house plant never goes out of fashion for me.
The gifted bouquet pictured above were called ‘Parc Floral de Paris’. They were absolutely gorgeous, and lasted weeks. In fact as they began to wither I dismantled the bouquet – keeping the carnations in one vase and roses in another – spreading their cheer throughout our home. I also dried the fresh smelling eucalyptus that came in the bouquet and displayed them in their own little bouquet.
Support your local or national florist.

Irish Designed & Made Jewellery
Okay, I know what you’re thinking! Beauty products, flowers, and jewellery – a little bit of a Mother’s Day cliché perhaps? NOT AT ALL. Not when it’s done right!
And when it comes to right, Gemma’s designs at Inner Island are just perfect. Check out one of my favourite Irish Jewellery Brands to own here: Inner Island, and one which I admire and covet: Edge Only.
Or why not get your Mum a jewellery making course! Then she can make her own masterpieces! I went to one of Fiona Fewer’s classes in the The Rathgar Bookshop in Dublin and loved every minute. And nowadays the mastermind behind Dink Design runs the course from her specially designed home studio. Read more about it here.

Afternoon Tea or Brunch
Fancy sandwiches with their crusts cut off, sweet delights, scones with clotted cream and jam. Washed down with copious amounts of tea, coffee or booze. There’s a reason Afternoon Tea is a thing. Personally I love it. And I’m always happy to partake, locally, nationally or internationally!

Beauty Treatment aka ‘A good ol’ Pamper’
Us mams, mums, moms and mammies work hard, always. So a pamper that has been paid for us will never go out of style. If you’re not sure what type of pamper the mum in your life would like, or even be confident with, then opt for a hand treatment. A good package will include a massage, nail treatment, file and polish.
If you are considering Dublin – I recommend Skinfull Affairs on Exchequer St in Dublin 2. This place is all about “Conscientious Cosmetics and Treatments” and you can check them out here: My New Favourite Beauty Spot – Skinfull Affairs, 34 Exchequer St, Dublin 2.
Locally I’m really looking forward to returning to Revive Garden Spa for: A Heavenly Afternoon Pamper at Revive Garden Spa Athy, Kildare.

Irish Art & Design
Ireland is extremely rich in the amount of artistic talent its people are gifted with. A gift from an Irish Artist or Designer, really is a gift that keeps on giving. Your mum will be delighted with a unique Irish made piece of art or design. You’ll be happy in the knowledge that you’re supporting a worthy business. And the artist or designer you purchase from will be able to continue creating those pieces of happiness that we all need to survive in life.

Music & Culture Tickets and Events
Tickets and passes to cultural and musical experiences are always the best gifts. Providing a way to share or create happy memories and potentially fulfilling a lifelong dream is priceless. From recordings or concerts of your mum’s favourite music act, band or singer, to a theatre production she’s always wanted to see. Think ahead, and outside the box – for events, if she can’t be there in person, perhaps she can be there virtually! Or maybe you’d like to give her something to look forward to.
