Three Delicious Alpro Plain Big Pot Recipes
Readers who have connected with The Life of Stuff on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram will know that a couple of weeks ago I received a lovely hamper from alpro full of fresh fruit and kitchen goodies to help me ‘make over MY morning’. With lots more healthy goodies in the shape of seeds and nuts in my kitchen cupboard crying out to be used, I was very ready to make over my morning.
Along with the hamper I received a recipe booklet full of inspiration for Alpro Smoothie Bowls. The ticket to an Alpro Smoothie Bowl, is to whisk up all your favourite smoothie ingredients including Alpro Almond Unsweetened or one of the Alpro Plain Big Pots: Simply Plain, Plain with Almonds or Plain with Coconut, pour it into a bowl and decorate it with fresh fruit, berries, nuts or seeds … or all four!
For inspiration I created three different recipes for you to enjoy. An Alpro Plain Big Pot Smoothie Bowl, an Alpro Plain Big Pot Overnight Oats, and an Alpro Plain Big Pot Smoothie Drink.
… but before I share them, here are some facts you might not know about Alpro …
“Proud to be pioneers of plant-based eating, Alpro has been creating delicious plant-based alternatives to milk, yogurt, cream, custard and desserts for over 35 years, made from either, non-GM soya beans, almonds, coconuts, hazelnuts, rice and oats”.
Alpro “contains added Calcium and Vitamins B2, B12, E and D”, it’s “Free from colours, flavours and preservatives”, and Alpro Unsweetened Almond is only 26 calories per 200ml, making it the “lowest calorie nut drink on the shop shelves”
Smoothie Bowl with Fruit and Nuts
Although I am calling this my Smoothie Bowl, I didn’t actually whizz up the ingredients I simply added piled them on top of my Alpro Plain Big Pot instead! I built up a host of flavours and textures … and not just for me either. Smith, my 11 month old son joined me too, just for a little change, because I’m keeping to his baby yogurt until he gets a little older … but you have to admit that our Mommy and Baby bowls look the bizz!
Ingredients:
- Alpro Plain Big Pot with Almond
- Stewed Apple & Pear
- Goji Berries
- Black Raisins
- Fresh fruit – Kiwi, Banana, Blueberries
Method:
The method is quite simple. Just pile up your ingredients over your bowl of Alpro Big Pot Plain and tuck in! For Smith’s baby bowl, I refrained from adding the goji berries and raisins and chopped up his kiwi, banana and blueberries as opposed to slicing them or leaving them whole.
Almond Overnight Oats
Overnight oats are so easy to prepare and they taste great the next morning … although you don’t literally need to leave them overnight, a few hours will do it too, if you’re short on time or want to enjoy them during the day.
Ingredients:
- Alpro Plain Big Pot with Almond
- Alpro Almond Unsweetened Drink
- Two heaped scoops of porridge oats
- Chia Seeds
- Goji Berries
- Black and Green Raisins
- Toasted Sliced Almonds
- Fresh fruit – Kiwi, Banana, Blueberries
Method:
Get yourself a jar, a recycled cleaned jam jar or a purposely bought mason style jar … it’s entirely up to yourself. Add the oats, a couple of heaped tablespoons of Alpro Plain Big Pot with Almond and good splash of the Alpro Almond Unsweetened. You want the oats to be immersed in these two ingredients. Next mix in a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds. Top it off with the goji berries, black and green raisins and toasted sliced almonds. Cover the jar and pop it in the fridge. In the morning (or a few hours later) top the concoction off with fresh fruit. I used banana, kiwi and blueberries. Hearty, healthy and filling.
Tip – if you get yourself a mason style jar that locks you can take your overnight oats to work and enjoy a really healthy snack for your elevenses.
Coconut & Rocket Smoothie
This is a very simple recipe but I found it really tasty. The original plan was to use spinach but alas I didn’t have any on the day, however the rocket did a great job as an alternative. The taste is subtle but kind of moreish.
Ingredients:
- Alpro Plain Big Pot with Coconut
- One pear
- One apple
- Handful of washed rocket leaves
- One pinch of cinnamon
Method:
I used a half of the Alpro Plain Big Pot with Coconut, added a peeled apple (you could leave the peel on for more goodness) and one peeled pear (again you could leave the peel on). When the ingredients were whizzed together, I added a handful of rocket leaves and a pinch on cinnamon. I then poured it into an old washed jar, added a big thick straw and I had myself a very healthy homemade hipster smoothie. Nom.
