Bevvy of the Week – Knappogue Castle Aged 12 Years Single Malt Irish Whiskey

Knappogue Castle 12 Year old Irish Whiskey

Knappogue Castle Aged 12 Years Single Malt Irish Whiskey

This week I’m taking a look at a very nice Irish Whiskey called Knappogue Castle 12 Year Old.

I first tasted this Whiskey some time ago. I had bought a bottle for a friend as a birthday present, and after a full night out and about a bunch of us went back to my place to have another few. Anyway as the night went on, the booze dried up. There was only myself and another few chaps left when it dawned on me that the bottle of Knappogue Castle was in my friend’s bag but he was fast asleep. As it was a Birthday present, and a present from me at that, we did have our reservations about opening it, but hey, Whiskey for all. We said we would just have one, two max. As the last dribble dropped into my glass, I had mixed emotions. One, I shouldn’t have drunk the present I gave my friend and two, why the hell did i not buy Knappogue Castle for myself.

I tried it of late and it’s still as good as before. Knappouge Castle 12 Year Old has aromas of vanilla and freshly baked bread, nicely balanced on the palate with a nice richness and a fresh and light fruit character. Flavours of lemon and fresh apples fill the Whiskey and it has a rich and spicy finish.

You should pick it up for €50 and it’s well worth it but the look on my friends face on seeing the empty bottle, priceless.

Enjoy, Sláinte,

Patrick
