According to research published by The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Ireland in May 2021, 73% of people were making 2021 travel plans, with ‘Staycation’ holidays coming in at 44%, that’s 2 in 5 people. Over in the UK, research shows there was a 300% increase in UK holiday bookings in 2021.
For many who don’t normally stay in their home country during the holiday season, staycations may have been this year’s trend. But ‘staycation’ holidays have been around long before the COVID-19 pandemic and they’re not bound to just disappear as the world opens up to travel again.
If you have been after a real adventure, you might have found yourself longing for long-haul flights and exotic countries. You might even have considered immigrating and starting up a new business abroad, just to see new sights and feel something different.
Nonetheless, and even if you are planning to break away when the timing is right to live out your entrepreneurial dreams in pastures new – in the meantime, your home countries are full of undiscovered gems, which are often just a short drive away from your home.
