The Kildare Maze, Prosperous, Naas, Co. Kildare
A place I’m looking forward to returning to for a family day out before the summer is out is The Kildare Maze. Open seven days a week in June, July, August and every weekend in September, The Kildare Maze is perfect for children of all ages.
There’s ample car parking at the maze, and when you purchase your ticket all the activities and ‘things to do’ on site are included in the price (Adults €8, Children €6, Under 2 yrs old – Free)
There’s also a shop at the entrance where you purchase your entrance ticket. Here you can buy snacks and beverages. We found the staff friendly and helpful, explaining our tickets and the maze to us.
Things to do at The Kildare Maze include the Hedge Maze with Viewing Tower, the Wooden Maze, Crazy Golf, an Assault Course, a Play Area with Zip Wire and Sandpit, a Picnic Area and a Pets Corner.
To give you an idea of what to expect and hopefully show you why it makes for a perfect open air family day out, I’ve selected some of my favourite photo’s from my experience there.
The Hedge Maze
I really wasn’t aware of the size of this fantastic looking maze, nor its twists and turns until we were in the middle trying to find our way to the Viewing Tower. Bumping into other visitors who had made wrong turns. Thinking we were smart following the road most trodden only to be faced with a ‘dead end’. Walking back along the way we had walked once before … or was it twice?
We did find our way to the ‘sacred’ Viewing Tower in the end. The view was fab but it was the giggles and laughter along the way that really made it special.
The Wooden Maze
When you pay your entrance fee to The Kildare Maze, you also receive a ticket. On the front of this ticket is a phone number should you get lost (don’t worry it’s only a precaution). On the back is a puzzle card to complete using the red punches within the Wooden Maze. Upon completion you have the option of handing the completed card in to be in with the chance of winning a Family Pass.
There was something very funny and cute about this part of our visit, and it’s to do with the other parents we met. It was as if we were all egging each other on to complete our cards. Giving each other tips on where to find the next ‘red punch’. Checking each other’s cards to see how we were getting on. Even now I giggle thinking about it, it was lovely.
As mentioned earlier, there are a host of other activities for your little ones to enjoy, including the Assault Course and Zip Line for the older children …
… And the Pet’s Corner and Sandpit for the younger children – all outdoors in the fresh country air!
We first took Smith at 17 months old and he had a field day. Now at six years old, and with a little four year old brother – we know when we take him here again, it’ll even be more fun!
