Black Boar Imperial Oatmeal Stout
This week I would like to recommend a stout from The White Hag Brewing Company in Ballymote Sligo called Black Boar Imperial Oatmeal Stout. The White Hag Brewing Company are producing some really good beers and I’m looking forward to sampling their range but for now we’ll stick to big full-on stout.
The White Hag Black Boar Imperial Stout is a rich and very full bodied Stout. It’s 10.2% abv so it really packs a punch. As you can expect from a stout with 10.2% abv the alcohol taste is very well present, which in my opinion is not a bad thing.
With many beers and stouts with of this kind of abv it’s all about sitting back and easing into the drink. Yes, the first sip or two can be a bit confusing but once you settle into the brew all the flavours start to release and you find yourself really enjoying it, and Black Boar Stout is no different.
Flavours of roasted malt, black fruit, coffee and dark chocolate all come through. It has a bitter and a sweet side to it and you also get that warming feeling from the alcohol.
If you are settling down with just the one beer, give this a go. It’s a great sipping stout.
The White Hag Black Boar Oatmeal Imperial Stout comes in a 330ml bottle and will cost yo in and around the €4 mark.
Enjoy, Sláinte,
Patrick
