MAC – Stroke of Midnight Eye Bag in Violet
Not exactly a ‘buy’ as I did receive this fab MAC bag full of goodies as a Christmas prezzie from my loving brother and his clever girlfriend. Although a little behind time with reviewing this product as it was part of the MAC Holiday Collection 2013 (Winter 2013) and is no longer available to buy as a whole from your local MAC store, I decided as you can still purchase all the goodies that came in the bag … why not feature and give my review!
Inside this perfectly sized for ‘going out’ essentials zipped gold-edged black & white purse came the following;
One Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Violet – normally priced €19.50 which you can check out on the Brown Thomas website here. I love this colour which is ideal for day and evening wear. The texture of the shadow is quite creamy but not overly so as it does kind of dry into your lids but stay moist at the same time, leaving a sweep of colour and some sparkle. I expected crease lines at the end of the day but no, it stayed put and I like this product so much I’m going back for more in more colours.
One Fluidline Eyeliner Gel in Blacktrack – normally priced €18.50 which you can check out on the Brown Thomas website here. I’m a huge fan of the ‘cats-eye’ or ‘flick’ or whatever you want to call it style, you are probably well aware of this if you’ve read some of my previous Best Beauty Buy posts, however I have up until I received this fine gift kept away from Eyeliner Gel – I’ve had it applied professionally by those who knew what they were doing and did a great job but also but also by those who were professionals and did a pretty mediocre job – having witnessed both good and bad and although I would consider myself fairly nifty with make-up I’ve always felt using a Eyeliner Gel would be too difficult and messy. I was wrong. It’s a piece a cake. The black is really black and really pops. I have no issues wearing it for everyday use but favour it for casual Fridays, weekends and nights out.
One In Extreme Dimension Lash – Volume and Curl Mascara in Black Extreme which I can’t find in Ireland but found on the MAC UK website. It costs £18 which is about €21.50, you can check it out here. I like this mascara, it did a great job separating my lashes without clumps. The black was really black or should I say ‘Black Extreme’ , it didn’t flake and held my lashes in place however I can’t truly give you a honest review as I haven’t worn it much, I’m still using a mascara I previously had.
One Double Ended Applicator Brush 209/239 which again does not appear to exist outside of this glorious set but can be purchased as two separate brushes, the 209 and the 239. The 209 Eye Liner Brush will set you back €21, check it out on the Brown Thomas website here and the 239 Eye Shader Brush costs €28 from Brown Thomas here. A two in one brush is the way to go. The Eye Liner end came with a plastic tube that fits snuggly over the tip to protect the rest of your gear from the gel. The point is pointy and perfect, just perfect for applying gel. The Eye Shader end is what can be expected of MAC brushes – sturdy, quality and if you look after it well you should have it for a long time. If I had to buy either brush separately, which you can only do unless you in fact bought this set, I’d buy both.
Totally impressed with the contents of this MAC Stroke of Midnight Eye Bag – I’ll have my eyes peeled for the next special collection.
