Hôtel Casa Païral, Collioure

Have you read my post about “the colourfully picturesque and culturally rich French Catalan town of Collioure“? Settled on the French Mediterranean coast, at the foot of the Pyrenees, Collioure is less than an hour from the Spanish border and only 30 minutes from the nearest French airport in Perpignan. On my recent visit I stayed at Hôtel Casa Païral, a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of the town.

Hôtel Casa Païral is part of the Relais du Silence Hotel Brand, a brand renowned for charming and unique establishments throughout France and in Europe – think manor houses, chalets, Provencal farmhouses and castles. And the 19th century townhouse Hôtel Casa Païral, which was originally the private dwelling of a Catalan family, sits perfectly with the ethos of the brand.

I fell in love with the hotel the minute I stepped under the arch of its entrance.

 

To the left looking into the courtyard and beyond to the pool area I was captivated by the romantic scene of the ivy covered walls and the outdoor dining area shaded by the hundred year old magnolia tree.

Straight ahead brought me through the large wooden doors in to the lobby and the reception area.

 

And beyond that, drawing rooms that lead with its ornate flooring to the breakfast room that opens out to the garden.

 

Check-in was an easy affair, and my case was brought up the winding staircase to the room for me. My room number was number two of the twenty-seven rooms available at the hotel, and what a fabulous room it was – with balcony doors that opened out to the courtyard and right next to that wonderful magnolia tree – I swear it came alive at night.

The other view which could be enjoyed from the comfort of my bed was through a large window and it presented to me a scene of the rooftops and gardens of Collioure. Absolute Collioure. Absolutely Perfect.

My room was large, and bursting full of character, old and new features sitting comfortably side by side.

The antique furniture, framed paintings and mirror working well with more modern features such as the flat screen T.V., air-con, integrated mini-fridge and plenty of sockets to charge my electronics.

The bathroom with its walk-in shower had all the mod-cons you’d expect from a boutique hotel, and all the Relais du Silence toiletries you need to refresh you for your day of exploring.

And what a day of exploring is to be had in beautiful town of Collioure.

From its ancient buildings and winding streets all the way to the shore with its sea views of life on the water. Food, drink and Art celebrated hand in hand, and all on the doorstep.

 

After a comfortable nights sleep, I woke to birds chirping and immediately threw open my bedroom windows to take in the morning air and the scenes around me. After a hot shower it was time to pack up and make my way to the breakfast room where a delicious continental breakfast spread lay before me.

 

But as the sun was shining how could I resist dining outside in the shade of the beautiful magnolia tree.

Although a short stay, I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent at Hôtel Casa Païral, and look forward to staying again in the near future. Thank you to Sarah Juan and her team at the hotel and of course to Collioure Tourism Office for organising my visit.
